Reference Mauntain of Heian Capital

"Funaoka Yama"

The Heian capital was designed with the north reference point as shown in this reconstruction. The point is Funaoka Yama(Mountain). The capital is protected from 4 sides by Black Tortoise, Blue Dragon, White Tiger and Vermilion Bird in accordance with Chinese geomancy. This point corresponds with the Black Tortoise.

Now the mountain is a park and you can see the view of Kyoto city from the top imagining that you are viewing Heian Capital.
